Day 10...Meet Vera Jo
Posted on December 15 2016
This year, Mullein & Sparrow is celebrating our own version of the '12 Days' by adopting a cutie-pie from the Farm Sanctuary each day as a way to give back this season. For Day 10, we introduce to you sweet adoptee Vera Jo, whose mom was rescued from cruel circumstances.
Vera Jo is one of the lucky ones; born at Farm Sanctuary’s New York Shelter, she will never experience the heartbreak that her mother, Izzy, once endured. Farm Sanctuary rescued Izzy and her friends from a terrible cruelty case in Franklinville, NY, where the malnourished animals spent their entire lives indoors in squalid pens. Izzy was a “breeding ewe,” and was used to produce lamb after lamb for slaughter. Understandably, she was very terrified when she arrived, having never experienced kindness from humans. Once Vera Jo was born, however, Izzy slowly began to trust her caretakers at Farm Sanctuary when she realized she could finally keep her baby forever. Vera Jo was the first of five lambs – born to three different mothers – from the rescue, and loves leaping from straw bales and snuggling with her friends. We are excited to watch this sweet girl grow up in safety, and are overjoyed to watch this extended family enjoy the peace and protection that all beings deserve.
