What is a toner, anyway? It’s only the most overlooked step in your skincare routine. Toners are an absolute skin-saving solution for almost any skin concern--and here’s why:
..
Nowadays, toners are far more gentle than they once were. This makes them much more effective in solving targeted skin concerns. One of my all-time favorite toning ingredients is witch hazel. Thanks to naturally occurring tannins, this product is astringent-- meaning it will tighten, tone, and heal your skin. It is also responsible for absorbing excess oil--making it perfect for controlling acne. High in polyphenols, a compound that helps with anti-aging, it also works to battle free radicals on the skin and protect against premature aging. But the best part is, this product is all natural!
..
The witch hazel plant grows wild in the forests of the Eastern United States and Canada. It’s blooming yellow flowers bring light to the dull months of October and November, after the trees shed their leaves for the winter. The twigs and bark from this shrub are cooked and distilled to create witch hazel extract. Native Americans once used its leaves and bark as poultice to reduce swelling and inflammation. It’s soothing, healing and astringent properties are exactly why it’s so widely used in skincare products.
..
This power ingredient can be found in our Soothing Mist Toner and Balancing Mist Toner. We believe in gentle, yet effective ways to treat the skin, which is why we formulate our toners with both distilled water and witch hazel-- this ensures that the powerful witch hazel is slightly diluted and will not be too harsh or dehydrating on the skin. And of course, there are no added chemicals or preservatives. Our soothing face mist toner features mint and lavender essential oils to calm your skin and your senses. This toner is great for all skin types. While the witch hazel in our balancing face mist toner works to decongest pores, rose and coriander essential oils work to keep skin supple and hydrated, thus maintaining homeostasis.
..
When you cleanse your face, your skin may become imbalanced, even if you are using a very gentle method (See how we love to cleanse, here!). This is totally normal, because when you cleanse, you want to get all those impurities and pollutants out! But to restore the balance and leave your skin less dry and vulnerable, toners are essential. Spray your toner onto your skin right after cleansing to rebalance the skin's acid mantle and give it a boost of hydration, leaving it in the optimal condition to layer on your other skincare products such as an oil balancing or hydrating serum.
..
But why a spray? Well, simply put, you waste a lot less product by spraying the toner directly on your face rather than using a soaked cotton pad. Also, adding moisturizer to your freshly misted skin is an ideal way to use the perfect amount of moisturizer. When you use moisturizer on dry skin you tend to use more than necessary as well as tug on your skin to spread the moisturizer around. When your skin is prepped with witch hazel and essential oils, you’ll find that you the moisturizer emulsifies and spreads evenly and quickly. I have to add that the fine mist is also an extremely satisfying and refreshing feeling.
