"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love." – Marcus Aurelius
This may come as a surprise, but developing a well-rounded morning routine actually isn’t that hard (and this is coming from a sleep-loving, alarm-snoozing, running out the door to catch my train type of girl). But there is something so pure and beautiful about mornings. This is a time in which we hold the power to impact our entire day-- whether you want to be more healthy, productive, or focused.
Here are 5 simple steps to implement in your routine that focus on the small things we can do every day to promote health and wellness in the body and mind. Try one or try them all-- I’m sure one is bound to work for you!
Rise and Shine
Wake up at a time that feels right for you, after all, it is your morning routine. I recently went on a phone detox, where I stopped checking social media and emails as soon as I wake up in the morning. The result? My mind feels much more clarified, and it makes for a fresh start to the day.
Drink a glass of water while you brew a cup of tea
This daily detox is used to reset the system and help eliminate toxins in the body. Warm water with lemon is a powerfully simple recipe to bring the body into balance. This practice has become quite popular and widespread, but its roots reside in Ayurveda. The warm water helps to stimulate the digestive system, flush the gastrointestinal tract, and rehydrate the body. Lemons help to balance PH inside the body, as they have an alkaline effect. Lemon is also antibacterial, antiviral, and the high level of vitamin C is a great boost for the immune system. Warm lemon water first thing is a great tradition to start with, but of course, any choice of herbal tea will do the trick!
Splash your face with cool water
I rinse my face with cool water every morning to refresh and awaken my skin. Even after a good night's rest, it's pretty normal for your skin to look a bit puffy in the morning. Cool water helps to awaken and depuff the skin, especially around the eyes. After I rinse and gently cleanse with our Lemon Rose Face Wash, I apply the Hydrating Face Mist Toner and Rose and Frankincense Serum to keep my skin plump and hydrated all day. This small but powerful step also helps prepare and protect the skin for the days challenges, such as heat, stress, and pollutants.
Write down an intention
Intentions are the key to manifesting your goals and visions. Starting your day off by writing down an intention plants the seed for which your dream can grow. Writing them down can also help you keep track of your progress. Your intention could be for the day, the week, or for the month. You are an incredibly powerful being and your intentions will prove it. Because rather than waiting for something good to come around, you are putting matters into your own hands by putting forth what you intend on attracting into your life for the good of your mind, body, and soul.
Don’t forget the most important meal of the day
We’ve all heard this advice since we were children, but how many of us actually implement it? When your body is properly fueled, your energy levels and performance improves. Plus, you won’t be sitting at your desk at 10 am already contemplating eating that lunch you packed yourself.
Slow down, take a little extra time for yourself...It can truly make all the difference. What is your favorite step in your morning routine? Let us know in the comments below
