Evening primrose-- Perhaps your only association with the name is Katniss Everdeen’s sister in The Hunger Games, but we are here to tell you all about this rare gem in the beauty market and why it is a must-have in your natural skincare routine.
What is Evening Primrose Oil?
A small plant native to North America and England, evening primrose yields dainty yellow flowers during the spring and summertime months. Its flowers bloom from twilight to sunrise, hence the name “evening primrose.” Pressing the seeds of the plant elicits a beautiful golden yellow oil that has a slightly nutty scent and is exceptionally nourishing for the skin, hair, and nails.
Evening Primrose Oil For A Stunning Complexion
Especially high in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega 6 fatty acid, evening primrose oil offers a wealth of healing properties. GLA is necessary for ideal skin structure and function, and because the skin cannot produce GLA on its own, applying evening primrose oil daily can be pivotal in maintaining your skin’s natural, radiant glow.
In addition to being rich in GLA, evening primrose oil is high in vitamins E and C, and its application will keep your skin looking youthful and flawless. It boosts blood circulation to the skin, easing inflammation and improving elasticity, moisture, firmness and tone. A deeply healing oil, it is also used in the treatment of psoriasis, rosacea, hormonal acne and eczema.
Studies published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science have even shown that evening primrose oil can help with age-related structural and functional changes in skin tissues, such as redness, firmness, roughness, and fatigue resistance. It’s no wonder it was dubbed the “King’s Cure-All” in 17th century England; it truly is a panacea worthy of royal acclaim.
Recommended Use:
For best results, use 2-3 drops on moistened skin. We recommend misting the face, neck, chest with one of our Face Mist Toners, then applying the oil while skin is still damp. Alternatively, mix the oil and Face Mist Toner in the palm of your hand, then apply.
Note: Since pure Evening Primrose is a heavier oil, if you have combination skin and want to reap the same benefit
s but with a lighter oil blend, we recommend our proprietary Rosemary & Clary Sage Facial Serum which is crafted with evening primrose along with black cumin and squalane oils.
Evening Primrose Oil for Hair & Nail Health
Evening primrose oil is as beneficial to the nails and hair as it is to the skin. Routinely massaging a few drops of oil into the nails has been found to prevent brittleness and breakage. Likewise, regular use of evening primrose oil has proved to be highly beneficial for hair loss, as it deeply nourishes the scalp and makes the hair follicles stronger. It has also been proven to heal scalp-related issues such as dandruff, itchiness, and redness and improve hair luster and shine.
Recommended Use:
Massage evening primrose into your scalp for a few minutes and leave it for 30 minutes before rinsing. Do this once or twice a week for visible, beautiful results.
