This weekend, we celebrate and honor those who have died in America’s wars, as well as veterans and those who currently serve in the U.S. military. We cannot express our gratitude enough for those who served and those who continue to serve our country. We thrive in this world we live in today because of these heroic individuals.
..
We want to take this opportunity to highlight a woman who, quite frankly, is a total badass. She comes to mind amidst the recent tragedy that struck a Southwest Airlines plane, which was forced to make an emergency landing after one of its engines failed, causing one fatality and several injuries. Despite the engine exploding mid-air, the plane was able to safely land. The hero behind this miraculous landing that averted a far worse catastrophe? Tammie Jo Shults, a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
..
..
As it turns out, Shults has been breaking glass ceilings for years. After the Air Force neglected to express interest in her, she applied for the Navy. It wasn’t until a year after her aviation test did a recruiter process her application. Shults was one of the first women pilots in the Navy and one of the first women to fly an F/A fighter jet. She served in the Navy for 10 years.
..
Today, just 6.33% of commercial airline pilots are female. Shults continues to not only succeed, but emerge as a hero in a male-dominated industry. Her perseverance, success, and service to our country is admirable to both men and women alike.
..
Shults broke barriers to pursue her goals, and for that she is a pioneer in the aviation field. We applaud her willpower and drive to make this country a better place all while paving a path for the future generation of female pilots and women as a whole. Let this empowering message be an inspiration to women who continue to make massive strides in society and break down social constructs. We appreciate each and every one of you.
..
As for us? Our all-female team here at Mullein and Sparrow couldn’t decide whether to fangirl over Tammie Jo’s utter strength and heroism or feel downright inspired. Okay, so maybe we did a little (or a lot) of both. With powerful, amazing women to look up to, we feel more driven every day to succeed as the brains behind a flourishing beauty brand. Badass business women? I think yes! And of course, it helps to have such a lovely, supportive community behind us.
..
From our team to you, we give our sincerest thanks for the endless love and support. Happy Memorial Day, everyone.
